E Tū Whānau has its own virtual whānau and you are amazing! Over a period of two weeks, more than 250 of our Facebook friends shared smart ways to keep tamariki entertained right through to the end of the school holidays. This is a time when, unless you’re a budgeting genius, most of us have run out of money.

Timāra Paora of Mangere Bridge in Auckland, won a $100 petrol voucher for sharing her tips for free whānau fun.
“People need to be remember you don’t always need money and flash material things to have fun and spend quality time with family and friends,” says Timāra.
The preschool teacher and mother of two girls aged eight and six and a three-year old boy, lives with her own mum and says the ideas she shared are the things her whānau did when she was growing up.
E Tū Whānau’s social media editor, Koha Waru, had a hard job deciding who would win the voucher for the best post.
Mara’s post stood out to because it encompassed the E Tū Whānau values perfectly.
“Our Facebook page is vibrant virtual whānau so it was cool to see so many people helping each other out with their great suggestions. And it was great to be able to give whānau something for their efforts,” says Koha.
“It also shows that many of us are embracing and living a happy, healthy life that doesn’t revolve around materialism. It’s like we are developing an alternative culture to the consumerism that is pumped at us.”
