“In our busy lives, we must acknowledge the beauty of simplicity, genuine love and respect, and appreciate what we already have.”
That’s how second place winner in the E Tū Whānau 2018 Song Competition, Dion Whaanga sums up his song, ‘I’ll Call In A Little While’. He says it’s a reminder to appreciate the simple things in life.
Gisborne based Dion knows all about the busy life. As a marine engineer he spends his days building boats but he’s also a sought after drummer. His evenings and weekends are spent gigging in one of the four bands he’s currently playing with.
“It’s good to strive for success in life but it’s also important to remember those good friends and whānau who was there for you, and who will always be there for you, on that journey,” he says.
‘I’ll Call In A Little While’ earned Dion a prize of $2000.
