‘Let’s Talk’ – a song for “all the heroes”

Six years ago, the terrifically talented Tauariki brothers, Taniora and Ellaphon met the equally gifted Gibz Harris at the Māori Performing Arts wānanga in Henderson.

They clicked, started making music together and, lucky for us, they entered the recent E Tū Whānau song competition as MassMind. They won second place in the Open Section and took home $2000 for their stunning song ‘Let’s Talk’.

Taniora works with his iwi, Ngāti Whatua as a rangatahi worker. His brother works in mental health and Gibz is a teacher aid.

“ ‘Let’s Talk’ is inspired by our mahi and by the inspirational kaupapa at Ihumatoa,” he says.

“We want to encourage whānau to fight for what they believe in, and to remember that we all are hero’s, for our whānau, for our whenua, and most of all each other.”

This is the second time MassMind have entered the E Tū Whānau Song competition.

“Entering an original song with an accompanying video is a great challenge. We just wanted to give it a go and we’re really glad we did.”

Taniora says the song is a big thank for all the heroes who continue to fight for those who cannot.

“Our mothers, our fathers, advocates, our doctor, and many, many more. So please continue to protect the things that are precious to you. Ignite those flames and fight for a better day!”
